History
Adams County Pet Rescue was founded in 1997 and is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, which means that we are funded by tax-deductible donations, grants, and two small government contracts to care for the animals in the county. Our Staff is made up of compassionate and hard-working people who are dedicated to caring for Othello’s strays. We take in abandoned, neglected and abused dogs and cats throughout the county. These animals are then rehabilitated to the best of our ability, which for some may include training at the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center, and eventually placed in loving, caring environments. Our goal is to save as many animals as possible from a lifetime of sadness, and provide them with happy, healthy homes where they can run around, play, and live their best life.
Our Facility
After losing our facility to a fire in 2009, we worked out of the Othello Animal Pound. Although we were (and still are!) immensely grateful to have been able to share that space, we never stopped striving to find a place to call our own. Then, in 2015, Othello County granted us land and permission to build a new facility! Since then, we have worked tirelessly to continually refurbish, upgrade, and expand our facility to make it the best that it can be for the animals and our staff. Some examples of improvements we have made thanks to donations from the community include: a new isolation room for sick animals, a commercial-grade washer and drier that allows us to keep up with the laundry from changing the animals’ bedding every day, and an upgraded computer system that keeps us organized and efficient.
Our Mission
Adams County Pet Rescue is dedicated to the rescue, spay/neuter, rehabilitation and finding loving, caring homes for our neglected, abandoned and abused animals.
Coyote Ridge Correction Center
Through a program founded in 2007 called Ridge Dogs, Coyote Ridge inmates are partnered with stray and abandoned dogs that have been rescued by Adams County Pet Rescue. These are dogs that need a little extra help to be adoptable (typically puppies). In the weeks or months that it takes to learn basic obedience skills, the dogs live with their handlers at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center. This program provides the dogs with obedience skills and the inmates with the loving company of dogs. Once the dogs have been tested and approved, they are then adopted by their forever families! Each adoption is done through a dog’s respective agency. Since its inception, the Ridge Dogs program has trained more than 5,000 dogs with over 200 inmate handlers.
